Youghal RFC Report
Under Age Rugby:
Our boys under 14s, 16s and 18s are back into the swing of things and training every Tuesday and Thursday night at 7pm. New players are always welcome at these age groups so come along and give it a try!
Our Under 15 and Under 18 girls are joining with Midleton this year. We are currently training on Monday nights in Youghal at 7:30pm and on Saturdays in Midleton at 9:30am. We are always looking for new girls to come up and give rugby a try. Contact Ciara O’Flaherty on 086-3725759 for more information.
This season the decision was made to make amalgamate with Dungarvan Ladies Team and make the jump up to Division 1. This is a big step but the girls are working hard and are improving week by week. We are always looking for new Ladies to come and join our ever-growing team. Contact Ciara O’Flaherty on 086-3725759 if you’ve any interest.
18-09-2016 Youghal v Fermoy
An Amalgamated Youghal/Dungarvan ladies team faced Fermoy in the first of their Division 1 League campaign. The south east side got off to a slow start against a much seasoned Fermoy side. As the first half progressed the Youghal/Dungarvan team settled and showed the potential and abilities available. Ann McCarthy and Rebecca Terry made fantastic debuts, putting in tackles and taking on the ball with great confidence. Kathleen Denn led the team in her new role as Captain and did so by example and effort. On such a wet day the ball was kept in close, however the hard work of the team as a unit still shone through. Fermoy ran in 6 try’s in total. Youghal/Dungarvan were unlucky not to capitalise on the runs Edel, Kellie and Anna made. The team did fantastic for having to step up a division and showed the potential that is within our group. We will no doubt build and improve over the coming weeks. All in all a positive start for a new team moving into a higher division, who at no time looked out of place in division 1.
Team: Kathleen Denn O’Grady (C), Jade Fraher, Claire Murphy, Abbie Jayawardene, Jillian Hayes, Marie Ahlers, Donna Sheehan, Kate Sheehan, Aisling O’ Flaherty, Edel Wilson, Kellie Faul-Kelleher, Anna O’ Brien, Clare Keniry, Ann McCarthy, Rebecca Terry, Priscilla McEvoy.
25-09-2016 Youghal v Bantry
Youghal had their second match of the Division 1 league this weekend against a travelling Bantry side. Youghal stayed in contention with Bantry in the first half, the scrum was very solid and we capitalised on this on a few occasions. Our newest player Barbara, made a great debut by both taking on the ball and getting stuck in the action. Ciara in full back played outstanding, she made great runs that we were unlucky not to capitalise on. Our backs tested the defence of Bantry all day. Bantry took charge for parts in the second half but Youghal showed their ability and strengths in parts but just couldn’t seem to keep that momentum. Simple mistakes cost us scores, but mistakes can be rectified with more training. Edel’s great breaks and attacking lines again showed her talent, which along with the team as a unit contributed to her Hat -trick of try’s. Kathleen and Abbie did triple the amount of work in the forwards clearing rucks and making breaks. The ability and talent within the team is outstanding, but we need to capitalise on this in training in order to build for our next match which is on the 9th of October away to Tralee. Next Home game is in Youghal on the 23rd of October against Bandon. Please come out and show your support!
