U11′s play in Thomond Park

Youghal RFC U11’s play in Thomond Park
Friday 19th September 2014 will live long in the memory of a very lucky bunch of young boys and girls and their respective families as our U11’s played local Limerick side St. Marys at half time during the Pro 12 league match between Munster and Italian side Zebre. On a beautiful Autumn evening, 12 excited young rugby players, their 2 coaches and a bus full of supporters and family members struck off for Limerick by bus from the rugby club in plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere and dream the dream.
On a very special evening the crowd were treated to some top class rugby with Simon Zebo running in a hat-trick of tries passing right in front of where the Youghal crowd were situated (mind you, if you blinked you would have missed him). As half time approached, excitement levels were reaching fever pitch in the Youghal section. The kids along with their coaches made their way down from the West stand and as they raced on to the pitch they were greeted by a tremendous roar from the very appreciative crowd. The game itself went by very quickly with St. Marys scoring the only try of the game but during that time all the children that graced the field (and no doubt their proud parents also) grew an extra 6 inches taller and stayed that way for a long time afterwards – some of the kids were still wearing their wrist bands into school on Monday morning!
It was a fantastic evening and it is not everybody who can say they graced the hallowed turf of Thomond Park – hopefully it won’t be the last time for some of the players either. A big thank you to the Munster branch who afforded us the opportunity and to all who made the effort to make the trip. Although it was midnight when the bus got home, the kids slept soundly that night and no doubt will have sweet dreams for many years to come about the night they played in Thomond Park.
Training is on Sunday mornings from 11.15am – 12.30pm and new members are always welcome. For more information check out our website on www.youghalrfc.com or our facebook page – Youghal RFC Minis.
The U11 panel that took part in the game were as follows: Jack Corcoran, Conaill Doyle, Alex Geary O’Keeffe, Brian Coleman, Alex Kennedy, Kyle Ansbro, Suzanne Dignam, Jake Mulcahy, Jack Nicholson, Charlie Flavin, Adam Ward, Euan McCaughey.
